It is believed that the origins of Reiki stem from the civilizations of Atlantis and Lemuria and was later brought to India, Tibet and Egypt where this healing system eventually became lost. Reiki was rediscovered in Japan in the early 1900s by Dr. Mikao Usui and has spread throughout the world since that time.

At the heart of the Reiki system are the Five Reiki Principles. Usui created these principles to help invoke a sense of peace and balance in one’s life. Place your hands in prayer position over your heart, close your eyes and say them aloud or in your mind both in the morning and in the evening.
Just for today do not get angry
Just for today do not worry
Just for today be grateful
Just for today work hard
Just for today be kind to others
A Modern Translation of the Reiki Principles
You might want to change the wording of the original principles that Usui created to reflect a more positive vibration. Practice saying these affirmations out loud and see what difference you can feel in your body between the two sets of Reiki principles. Choose the words that work the best for you by making them your own. The important thing is to hold the energy in your body so that you can fully embody these principles in your life on a daily basis.
Just for today I am filled with peace
Just for today I trust in life
Just for today I am grateful for everything in my life
Just for today I am honest
Just for today I am kind to everyone and everything
